Open the Control Panel. Click the Start menu, and then click Control Panel. On Windows 8, you can open the Start menu by clicking the Start button in the lower-left corner of the screen, pressing the Windows logo key on your keyboard, or opening charms and then clicking start.

Open the uninstall tool. In the Control Panel window, under Programs, click Uninstall a program. Locate Windows Essentials. Windows Live Messenger was bundled together with Windows essentials. In the program list, scroll down to find Windows Live Essentials, and then click to select it. Start uninstalling Windows Live Messenger.

In the dialog box, click Uninstall, and then click Continue. At this point, you may be prompted for an admin password. Type your admin password to continue. I tried the Revo free version and it worked! After installing Revo uninstaller, I had to go to Options and select Uninstaller and check the box to show System Components. Then Windows Messenger was visible. The Uninstall process actually acted like it was installing it but then reached a point where I could select all the files 2 steps to do this and delete them.

So the problem comes when you are trying to install something large like Windows Live Essentials components. The computer may shut down somewhere on the install and cause a system startup problem.

After deleting those it finds that files still remain mine were mainly in programs x I bit the bullet on both counts and selected all entries for deletion.

I also dumped some bloatware from my new Asus laptop using the fourth Revo option. Noticed that it boots much quicker as a minor bonus. I used Revo Uninstaller. Unlike Glynnux, I used the advanced setting and found Registry entries to delete. I recommend it highly. Microsoft tried to get tricky in hiding windows live messenger!
